A Rat-tail splice, also known as a twist splice, is a very basic splice that can be done with both solid and stranded wire. It is done by taking the two wires and wrapping them together symmetrically around each other. It does not work that well for a wire that will have a significant pull on it. It is an easy splice to make as it can be done without tools and is often used when time is an issue.
